Crime roundup: toddler murder bid, two deaths, e-bike crash

A woman who attempted to murder a toddler by repeatedly giving the child adult medication has been given a life sentence. Laura Docherty, 35, formerly of Canmore Road, Glenrothes, in Fife, was convicted of attempting to murder the child, who was aged two when the offending began.

Utterly Wicked Crime

Docherty gave the child Amitriptyline, Propranolol, and Dihydrocodeine on various occasions between April 2021 and February 2023 at a house in Edinburgh, the city's Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, and elsewhere. As a result, the girl suffered seizures and episodes of reduced consciousness, and was admitted to hospital for "unnecessary medical investigations and procedures," according to the attempted murder charge.

Two Men Die in Glasgow Flat

Two men, aged 50 and 54, were found seriously injured at a flat on Chancellor Street in Partick at 4.40pm on Sunday. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Police are treating the deaths as unexplained, with post-mortem examinations to be carried out.

Woman Arrested After Cops Injured

A woman was arrested after two police officers were injured in an alleged hit and run in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire. The officers, aged 41 and 43, were struck by a white Renault Traffic that was "deliberately driven at them" while they were carrying out enquiries at a property. They were taken to hospital.

E-Bike Crash in Fraserburgh

Gemma Davidson, 32, is demanding a ban on e-bikes after a rider smashed into her car in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, just seconds after pulling a wheelie. The rider was thrown from the vehicle but Davidson and her partner were uninjured. She said: "It was so incredibly dangerous, he could have killed himself."

Man Hospitalised After Stabbing

A 25-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries after an alleged stabbing in Dunfermline, Fife. Police were alerted to a disturbance in Tuke Street at around 2.30pm on Sunday. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.
