Boy, 16, Held on Murder Suspicion After Woman Dies in Burnage

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman at a property in south Manchester on Wednesday morning (8 July). Officers from Greater Manchester Police, alongside paramedics, were called to the scene on Ivylea Road in Burnage after reports of an attack at a property at around 8am.

Victim Declared Dead at the Scene

The victim, a woman in her 60s, was tragically declared dead at the scene by emergency responders. Detectives launched a murder inquiry which continues. On Wednesday evening, a police car was spotted along the residential street. A witness reported there was a substantial police presence at a house throughout the day during the investigation, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Suspect in Custody

A teenager, a 16-year-old boy, remains in custody for questioning regarding the incident. The M.E.N understands the victim was related to the suspect. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said in a statement: "Officers responded to reports of an assault at an address on Ivylea Road, Burnage at around 8am today (08/07/26). One woman aged in her 60s sadly died at the scene and a boy, aged 16, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning."
