A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died at a house in south Manchester on Wednesday morning.

Greater Manchester Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene on Ivylea Road in Burnage at around 8am following reports of an assault at a house.

The victim, a woman in her 60s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A murder investigation has been launched and remains ongoing.

Police presence and investigation

On Wednesday evening, a police car was pictured on the residential street. A witness reported a major police presence at a house throughout the day as investigations continued.

The teenager, a boy aged 16, remains in custody to be questioned in relation to the incident. The Manchester Evening News understands that the victim was related to the suspect.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers responded to reports of an assault at an address on Ivylea Road, Burnage at around 8am today (08/07/26). One woman aged in her 60s sadly died at the scene and a boy, aged 16, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning."
