Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a 12-year-old boy in Brentwood, Essex. The child was found with serious injuries on Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch on Sunday evening.

Essex Police received reports at approximately 5:40pm on Sunday 7 June that a vehicle had collided with a child. Officers attended the scene and found the 12-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital but later died.

Arrests Made

A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, both from the Pilgrims Hatch area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody as investigations continue.

Ashwells Road is expected to remain closed for an extended period while forensic examinations are carried out. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes. Multiple police vehicles were observed at the scene on Monday, according to Essex Live.

Police Statement

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe expressed condolences: "Our first thoughts are with the family of the boy who has tragically died. This is a complex and evolving investigation that will take time to work through. We are building a full picture of the circumstances and thank those who have already provided accounts."

She urged residents to review CCTV footage from 8am to 7pm on Sunday 7 June and submit it via the dedicated public portal. "We are confident this was an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the community," she added.

The boy's family is being supported by specialist officers. Chief Inspector Terry Fisher, Brentwood district commander, acknowledged the incident's impact: "The loss of a child is every parent's nightmare. I ask that the family's privacy be fully respected, both in person and online."
