Emergency services recovered the body of a man from the Caledonian Canal in Inverness on Monday morning. Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident near Muirtown Swing Bridge shortly before 7am.
Discovery and Recovery
The alarm was raised around 6.50am on Monday, 29 June 2026, when police received reports of a body in the water. Emergency crews, including multiple police vehicles and a fire engine, were dispatched to the scene. The man was recovered from the canal with assistance from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
His next of kin have been notified. A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: "We were made aware of the body of a man seen in the Caledonian Canal near to the Muirtown Swing Bridge in Inverness around 6.50am on Monday, 29 June, 2026. He has been recovered with the assistance of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. His next of kin has been made aware."
Investigation and Scene
The area was cordoned off with police tape to prevent public access while investigators worked. Photos from the scene show a heavy police presence, with at least two police cars and a fire engine parked nearby. Officers and fire personnel were seen patrolling the site.
Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, as is standard procedure for sudden deaths. The force added: "There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
