An 11-year-old girl's body has been recovered from the water near a woodland park in Midlothian. Police were called to the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge, at around 12:40pm on Thursday after concerns were raised about the girl's safety.
Body found in Gore Water
Her body was discovered in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge at approximately 4:25pm. Police are treating the death as unexplained, and a full investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding her death.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge around 12.40pm on Thursday, 6 August, 2026."
Investigation underway
The spokesperson added: "The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware."
"Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
