Ben Cabango has been banned from driving for six months after being caught using his mobile phone while driving a BMW in Swansea. The Wales international and Swansea City captain admitted one charge of using a handheld mobile phone/device while driving a motor vehicle, with the case processed through the single justice procedure.
The offence happened on January 9 on Brynmill Terrace and Mumbles Road in Swansea, two days before Cabango captained the Swans against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup third round.
Court outcome
At Swansea Magistrates' Court on July 24, Cabango, of Penmark in the Vale of Glamorgan, was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months and handed six penalty points. He was also ordered to pay a £640 fine, a £256 victim surcharge and £120 in prosecution costs, with the total due by August 24.
The case was dealt with under the single justice procedure, a fast-track legal process used for minor criminal offences in private hearings.
Career
Cabango, originally from Cardiff, came through Newport County's youth academy before joining Swansea City at the age of 14. The 26-year-old has spent his career at the Championship club apart from a brief loan spell at Cymru Premier side The New Saints in the 2018/19 season.
He has played more than 250 times for Swansea and earned 16 caps for Wales.
