Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched following the death of former MP and MEP Ann Widdecombe. The 78-year-old was found dead with serious injuries at her home in Dartmoor on Thursday morning.

Ms Widdecombe, a former prisons minister for the Conservatives, later served as a Brexit Party MEP and a Reform UK spokeswoman. She also gained fame outside politics after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.
