Two brothers who lost their lives in a tragic crash on the A30 in Cornwall during half-term have been identified as Tobias and Finley Rice. The collision occurred on the westbound carriageway at Connor Downs on May 29, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Details of the Incident
Tobias, aged eight, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his five-year-old brother Finley succumbed to his injuries in hospital three days later on June 2. Both boys were pupils at Priory CE Primary School in Christchurch, Dorset, where the loss has deeply affected the school community.
Tributes from the School
Headteacher Simon Croutear paid tribute, stating, 'Our whole school community has been shocked and grieved by the tragic loss of Tobias and Finley. They were cherished members of our school family and will be immensely missed.' He added that the family's permission was granted to release the names.
The boys were traveling in a vehicle with two women. A woman in her 70s sustained serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, while a woman in her 40s was treated at the same hospital and later discharged. Police confirmed that specially trained officers are supporting the bereaved relatives.
Arrest and Investigation
A local man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He received treatment for minor injuries and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
