Three people have been injured following a large fight that broke out in Truro city centre on Monday, August 24. Police, including armed officers, and ambulance crews were called to the scene on Calenick Street.
A representative for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that bladed articles were reported during the incident and that armed officers are on site. A video has surfaced showing a man brandishing a machete.
Emergency response and witness accounts
Several witnesses informed CornwallLive about the incident in the city centre, which triggered a huge emergency service response. One onlooker said: "Truro massive police presence and armed response. Ambulance and everything, more emergency services are on their way".
Additional witnesses commented: "Huge police presence at Moorfield again, all around Burger King. Lots of ambulances as well" and "[road] all cordoned off around Burger King, around 30 coppers, 12 police cars". Another person said: "Something mega is going down in Truro".
Injuries and arrests
Three people have sustained injuries, with one person's injuries "potentially serious" according to cops. A police spokesperson also confirmed that two individuals have been apprehended in relation to the incident.
The representative for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We were called at around 1.45pm on Monday 24 August following a report of a large fight in Calenick Street, Truro. Emergency services are at the scene. Three people are believed to have been injured."
One person told CornwallLive: "I was in the queue of cars trying to drive down. Guy in front said turn around! It’s mayhem! I left asap." Another witness added: "What has happened to our once beautiful civilised cathedral city. I grew up here and I yearn for those good old days when you knew everyone and life was peaceful and easy."
