Nerissa Tivy, the mother of Alexander Sloley, who disappeared in 2008, appeared on ITV's This Morning on Thursday, 13 August, to appeal for answers. She was joined by her two daughters and spoke to hosts Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters, as well as criminologist David Wilson.
Disappearance Two Days Before 17th Birthday
Alexander was 16 when he vanished from Islington, North London, on 2 August 2008, just two days before his 17th birthday. He had been visiting a friend in Edmonton and left the house without a wallet or change of clothes, carrying very little money. There was no indication he planned to be away for long.
Speaking about the moment she realised something was wrong, Nerissa became emotional, saying: "When he didn't come home for his birthday. From day one, he never came home for his birthday." She noted that her son would always come home because he loved her wholesome Caribbean cuisine.
Concerns Over Police Response
Nerissa also raised concerns about the support her family received after reporting Alexander missing. She told the programme: "If you go to the police station and report that a child is missing, there are several organisations that should be contacted." She mentioned social services and other organisations that could have supported the family, adding that she was given a reference number but felt there was little further support.
The circumstances of Alexander's disappearance remain troubling for his family, as those close to him described his decision to disappear as completely out of character. Nearly two decades later, the family is still desperate for answers.
