Mother Found Dead; Police Hunt Asylum Seeker Suspect in Kerry

Irish police are investigating the murder of Jamey Carney, a mother found dead in her bed at her home in Killarney, County Kerry, on Monday, July 7, 2026. Gardai are hunting an asylum seeker suspect known to the victim, who is feared to be attempting to flee Ireland.

Victim and Discovery

Jamey Carney, an American-born woman in her 40s, was discovered deceased at her residence on Muckross Road in Killarney. She had lived in Ireland for the past five years and was the mother of a 13-year-old girl. Her daughter raised the alarm to a family friend at around 1:20 p.m. after becoming concerned for her mother's welfare. The friend contacted a man who immediately called Gardai.

Sources told the Irish Mirror that Ms. Carney's body had been hidden under a duvet. She suffered serious head injuries from a brutal attack believed to have occurred overnight. Gardai are expected to launch a formal murder inquiry.
