An inquest opening has heard that a man was found dead at his friend's house. Barrie John Richards, 47, had been staying with a friend in Trealaw, Rhondda, at the time of his death.
Details of the discovery
A brief hearing at Pontypridd Coroner's Court on Wednesday was told that Mr Richards, who was born in Llwynypia, was found unresponsive at his friend's flat on the evening of July 26. Paramedics were called, but Mr Richards was pronounced dead at the scene.
The inquest heard drug paraphernalia was found at the flat. A post-mortem was carried out at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. No cause of death was given, with the outcome pending toxicology results.
Coroner's decision
Area coroner Patricia Morgan said it was necessary to open a full inquest because she was satisfied there was reason to suspect Mr Richards' death may have been unnatural. She adjourned the hearing for further investigation to be carried out.
The full inquest, which may take place in writing, will be scheduled at a later date. Ms Morgan passed her condolences to Mr Richards' family and friends.
