Greg Lynn's First Wife Death Probe Stalls Over £7,000 Report Funding
Lisa Lynn Death Investigation Stalled Over Police Funding

A renewed investigation into the mysterious 1999 death of Lisa Lynn, the first wife of convicted murderer Greg Lynn, has reportedly stalled after police declined to pay for a crucial expert report.

Key Report Deemed Vital for Stalled Cold Case

Detectives had sought to commission a specialist analysis to determine whether the scene of Lisa Lynn's death was staged, according to the ABC. However, the progress of this cold case investigation has hit a significant barrier. The Lynn family claims Victoria Police are refusing to authorise the required £7,000 (approximately $9,000 AUD) to obtain the report.

"It costs $9,000 and so it's just a matter of that money that Victoria Police won't release," Ms Lynn's sister, Linda, told the broadcaster. The family has stated they even offered to cover the cost themselves but allege police have not responded to their proposal.

A Death Shrouded in Mystery and a Suppressed History

Lisa Lynn's body was found in the front yard of her home in Mount Macedon, north of Melbourne, in October 1999. She was 34 years old. A coroner later found the mother-of-two died from the combined toxicity of alcohol and prescription medication. No one has ever been charged in relation to her death.

New light was shed on the case this week after a years-long suppression order was lifted. Court documents revealed Lisa Lynn had taken out an intervention order against her husband, Greg Lynn, following the breakdown of their relationship. The order had also prevented media from reporting on Greg Lynn's criminal history.

Her mother, Kim Searle, told the ABC she had long been suspicious about the circumstances. "I think it was then that they realised there was possibly more to investigate," Ms Searle said, referencing the separate murder case that later engulfed her former son-in-law.

Connection to a Notorious Double Murder Case

The review of Lisa Lynn's death was initiated partly due to information that emerged during a separate, high-profile investigation. In 2021, Greg Lynn, a former Jetstar pilot, was charged with the murders of two elderly campers, Carol Clay and Russell Hill, in Victoria's High Country in March 2020.

In June 2024, Lynn was found guilty of the murder of Carol Clay and sentenced to 32 years in prison. He was acquitted of murdering Russell Hill. Lynn has consistently maintained his innocence regarding the campers, claiming their deaths were accidental, and is currently appealing his conviction.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said they were unable to comment further as the investigation into Lisa Lynn's death remains ongoing. "This current investigation commenced as a result of a review of the matter as part of a separate investigation, as well as information provided to police," the spokesperson stated.
