A mother who killed her three-month-old daughter with a hairdryer was jailed for six years at the High Court in Edinburgh. Courtney Gartshore, 28, was convicted of culpable homicide of her daughter Dahlia-Rose. Judge Simon Collins KC described the case as “uniquely disturbing” and told her: “You will have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge that you were responsible for her death.”
Escaped drug dealer jailed after Thailand arrest
Kyle Nelson, 38, a key player in a County Lines network selling heroin, crack cocaine and other drugs in York, North Yorkshire, was jailed. He had been serving a nine-year sentence for conspiracy to supply cocaine in 2022 and was moved to an open prison. He escaped in 2024 while on day release, travelling to Scotland, Ireland, then Thailand with the help of criminal associates before being caught.
Police officer injured in Glasgow attack
A police officer was left bloodied after being punched in the face outside a Glasgow shopping centre. The incident happened around 6pm on Wednesday in St Enoch Square while officers were searching for a missing person. A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, culpable and reckless conduct, resisting arrest and possession of an offensive weapon.
Delivery driver urges victims to speak out
Muhammad Jawad Yaqoob, 31, a delivery driver filmed being hit with a traffic cone and racially abused during an anti-immigration protest in Glasgow on July 25, has urged other victims to “raise their voices” against the far right. He said he has been too frightened to return to work and has not earned money since the attack. A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.
More arrests over Celtic title party disorder
Police have arrested four more people over disorder during Celtic’s Premiership title celebrations in Glasgow in May. Around 3,000 supporters gathered in the Trongate area after Celtic beat Hearts 3-1 on May 16, with missiles thrown at officers and two cops seriously injured. The arrests bring the total to 28, and detectives have released CCTV images of 83 people they want to identify.
