Michael Hewitt, an England and Leeds United fan known to friends as 'Little Mick', has gone missing while traveling to the United States for the World Cup. His family, deeply concerned for his safety, reported that he never arrived in the country after disappearing during a layover in Spain.
Disappearance During Layover
Hewitt left Leeds on June 20, intending to fly to Boston via Barcelona to watch England's group stage matches. His brother, Mike Wakefield, confirmed that the last contact with Hewitt was from Barcelona in the early hours of June 21. Since then, his phone has been out of service, and there has been no activity on his social media accounts.
Wakefield stated: 'He doesn't seem to have made it to Boston, and our last contact with him was from Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday morning, 21st June. Since then, his phone has been out of service and he hasn't posted any updates on social media. As you can imagine, we are now very worried for his safety.'
Investigation Underway
The family has reported Michael missing, and a case has been opened with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office under reference number 02470905. Interpol has also been contacted as relatives try to establish whether he traveled beyond Spain. Police are investigating under case reference 20260628/1183.
Wakefield added: 'Known to many as 'Little Mick', particularly within the Leeds United community, he will be a familiar face to lots of Whites fans across the globe, having followed the Club home and away for decades. If anyone has seen Mick since Sunday 21st June, or had any contact with him since then, please could you let ourselves or the FCDO know? Thank you.'
Appeal for Information
The family urges anyone with information to contact the authorities or the FCDO. The case remains active as searches continue.
