Nearly £20,000 has been donated to the family of Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old believed to have been murdered, as the community rallies to support them. The body of Lilly Jones, 14, was found last week, days after she went missing.
Community fundraising efforts
The community has held a jumble sale, set up a JustGiving fundraiser and organised a football festival as they mourn the loss of the "kind, bubbly" teen. The fundraiser says: "On 23rd June, [Lilly's parents'] lives changed forever, experiencing something no parent should. The local community pulled together for a search for their beautiful Lilly when they needed them, let’s pull together again to raise enough money to give this beautiful angel the send off she deserves."
A further £500 was raised for the family through a fill a bag Jumble Sale at The Cwtch in Blaina. The Magic Cottage children's charity organised the event and Lilly's Auntie Zoe collected the money on behalf of the family.
Court appearance and tributes
A 14-year-old boy appeared in court on Friday charged with murder in connection with the death of the Brynmawr Foundation School pupil. Lilly's secondary school posted an emotional tribute and flower tributes have been left near Duffryn Park.
The JustGiving fundraiser that raised £6,000 in a matter of hours has now almost reached £20,000. Floral tributes have been left near Duffryn Park in Blaina.
Fundraiser details
Set up by family friend, Leanne Smith, the fundraiser states: "I'm raising £10,000 for a funeral/memorial and to reduce financial pressures from this beautiful family. The family are in no way fit to even think about financial obligations so please do not share this with ANY of them yet. All fund raising ideas are so very welcome, donations for raffles etc greatly appreciated. Come on… let’s do this."
Beaufort Colts FC is also organising a Memorial Cup in her name to raise money for the family.
