The M25, the UK's busiest motorway, was closed on Saturday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision that prompted an air ambulance to land. The incident occurred on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 25 (Waltham Cross) and 23 (Potters Bar), causing a four-mile queue and delays of up to 60 minutes.
National Highways East reported that the clockwise section between junctions 23 and 25 was also temporarily closed but has since reopened. The air ambulance was dispatched to pick up an injured person, though later updates indicated the injury was 'not as serious as initially feared,' according to information from the scene.
After approximately two hours, three lanes were reopened, leaving only the outside lane closed where the collision occurred. By 4:24pm, National Highways confirmed that the collision had been cleared, with residual delays of about 10 minutes and two miles of slow-moving traffic.
This incident follows a pattern of disruption on the M25, including a lorry overturning in Surrey late last month and a major crash involving a car and a lorry near Heathrow Airport weeks earlier. National Highways advises all travellers to plan ahead before using the motorway.
