A baggage handler has issued a warning to travellers: avoid tying ribbons or other identifiers to your suitcase. While many passengers do this to spot their luggage easily on the carousel, the practice can actually cause bags to miss flights.
Speaking to RSVP Live, the airport worker explained that ribbons can interfere with automated scanning systems in the baggage hall. If a bag cannot be scanned automatically, it may be sent for manual processing, which could delay it and prevent it from being loaded onto the correct flight. The handler also advised removing old stickers from luggage to avoid confusion during scanning.
Additionally, the handler warned against packing marzipan, as its density can resemble that of explosives. This could lead to both the bag and its owner being removed from the flight for security checks.
In related news, a travel expert recently highlighted that 83% of Britons are unaware of new airport security rules set to take effect from June 1. The rules will allow passengers to carry up to two litres of liquids in hand luggage and keep laptops in bags. However, many major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, and Manchester, have admitted they will miss the deadline, while smaller airports like Teesside, London City, Birmingham, and Newcastle expect to comply on time.
