A major signal failure at London Waterloo has thrown rush hour travel into chaos, causing severe delays and cancellations across multiple rail services.
Thousands of frustrated commuters were left stranded on platforms as Network Rail engineers worked frantically to resolve the issue. The disruption affected South Western Railway services, with some passengers reporting delays of over an hour.
Commuters Face Travel Nightmare
The problems began during the critical morning peak, with many services either delayed or cancelled entirely. Social media quickly filled with angry complaints from passengers caught in the disruption.
"Absolute chaos at Waterloo this morning," tweeted one frustrated traveller. "My train's been cancelled and there's no information about when the next one might arrive."
Emergency Repairs Underway
Network Rail confirmed engineers were on site attempting to fix the signalling problem, but warned passengers to expect ongoing disruption throughout the day. A spokesperson said: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible."
The signalling failure comes at a particularly bad time, with many workers returning to offices after the summer holidays. Passengers have been advised to check journey planners before travelling and allow extra time for their trips.
