Severe delays are affecting the entire Victoria line this afternoon after infrastructure damage was reported at Brixton Tube station, causing long waits on busy platforms for travellers between Brixton and Walthamstow Central.
The fault at the line’s southern terminus began causing issues before lunchtime and has now led to delays across the whole route.
Earlier disruptions on the network
The Victoria line problems follow two earlier issues for commuters this morning. The District line was suspended early on Tuesday due to a faulty train but has since reopened, with service returning to normal after several hours.
Elsewhere, a fire erupted next to train tracks between Gatwick Airport and Purley. The blaze caused delays but was quickly brought under control, and rail services to the airport have resumed normal operations.
Other lines affected
Severe delays were also reported on the eastbound Central line following an earlier faulty train at Notting Hill Gate, with minor delays on the rest of the service. Minor delays were reported on the Circle line due to a faulty train at High Street Kensington.
On the Northern line, minor delays occurred between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank southbound only after a person was taken unwell at Angel. The DLR saw minor delays between Woolwich Arsenal and Stratford International due to an earlier electrical fault at the latter.
Service status and recovery
Gatwick Express stated: “There is a fire next to the track between Gatwick Airport and Purley. Some lines are blocked and services will be delayed altered or cancelled.”
Normal service has since resumed on the Circle line, while delays on the District line were reduced to ‘minor’ following the faulty train at Earl’s Court. Tickets were accepted on London buses during the severe delays.
Yesterday, a signal failure on the Victoria line caused widespread delays for most of the day. It is not clear whether the incidents are related.
