Emergency services, including fire crews, paramedics, and police, were called to a crash involving a van and a car near Wigan on Thursday afternoon, July 2. The incident caused a road blockage and heavy traffic in the area.
Collision on Newton Road
The collision occurred on Newton Road between Leigh and Lowton Common at around 3:30pm. A police car and a fire engine were seen blocking the main route near Barford Drive. Pictures from the scene showed emergency vehicles obstructing traffic.
Despite the initial response, the collision was later confirmed to be non-serious, with no injuries reported. Emergency crews remained at the scene for approximately one hour.
Fire Service Response
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 3.30pm this afternoon (Thursday 2nd July), one fire engine from Leigh fire station was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Barford Drive, Lowton. The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used a Hearth Kit and Spreader to make the vehicle and area safe. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.”
Greater Manchester Police also confirmed officers attended but that no injuries were reported and that the crash is not being treated as a police matter.
