Train services in parts of England have been slowed as a heatwave prompted safety measures. South Western Railway and Greater Anglia announced slower services on Thursday, with passengers warned of delays and cancellations.
Speed restrictions in place
Network Rail introduced speed restrictions on some routes to prevent tracks from buckling in the heat. Trains were running at reduced speeds, extending journey times. The restrictions affected services in southern and eastern England.
Impact on passengers
Passengers were advised to check their journeys before travelling. The disruptions came amid a heatwave that has brought high temperatures to much of England. Further delays were expected as the hot weather continued.
