Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A19 in County Durham. Emergency services were called to a collision on the northbound carriageway just before Easington Services shortly before 9am on Thursday.
Casualties and response
Two casualties were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, while two more were treated and discharged at the scene. It is understood that no one involved was seriously injured.
Officers from Durham Constabulary were stood down at around 10am. The North East Ambulance Service reported receiving a call at 8.54am on Thursday, August 13, about a road traffic incident on the A19 near Hawthorn.
Ambulance statement
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 8.54am on Thursday, August 13, to reports of a road traffic incident on the A19 near Hawthorn.
"We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical leader to the scene. Two patients were treated and discharged on-scene, and two more were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment."
