A two-year-old girl has died following a collision between the car she was travelling in and a lorry on the M1 motorway in Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred between junctions 26 and 27 at around 3pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene. The child, from Yorkshire, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A 30-year-old woman was also taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. A six-year-old boy travelling in the same car was unharmed.
The northbound carriageway was closed for more than three hours while police investigated. Officers are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage. A police spokesman said: 'Were you in the area at the time? Did you see the crash but couldn't stop? If anyone has any information, or any dashcam footage, please call us on 101, quoting incident number 487 of 22 August 2018.'
