A devastating incident unfolded in South Korea on Thursday, 13th November 2025, when a truck crashed into a crowded outdoor market in Bucheon, resulting in multiple casualties. According to officials, the accident claimed the lives of two people and left eighteen others injured.

Driver in Custody as Investigation Commences

Police official Son Byeong-sam confirmed that authorities are questioning the truck driver, a man in his 60s whose identity has not been released. Initial tests confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. The driver has reportedly claimed that his vehicle experienced a mechanical malfunction, a statement officials are actively verifying.

Chaotic Scene and Vehicle Recovery

Park Geum-cheon, an official from the Bucheon fire station, relayed witness accounts describing a chaotic sequence of events. Witnesses stated that the truck initially reversed for approximately 28 metres (92 feet) before driving forward for about 150 metres (492 feet), striking pedestrians along its path. Photographs from the scene depicted a harrowing sight: the truck lodged into a storefront amidst a jumble of debris, including toppled boxes, clothing, and broken signboards. The vehicle's front left side was severely mangled, and its windows were shattered. Officials have since removed the truck from the scene to aid the ongoing investigation into the crash.

Of the eighteen people injured, eleven sustained serious injuries. The two fatalities were pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. Officials did not immediately disclose if any of the injuries were considered life-threatening. The investigation continues as authorities review security camera footage to piece together the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event.
