Tree Blocks Ullet Road in Both Directions During Rush Hour

A busy Liverpool road was closed during the morning rush hour after a large tree fell and blocked both lanes. Emergency services were called to the Sefton Park area shortly after 6.30am on Friday (June 19) following reports a tree had come down on Ullet Road, near the junction with Sydenham Avenue.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers attended the scene to help manage traffic while the road was closed and asked drivers to avoid the area. Officers remained at the scene while traffic management measures were put in place before later leaving the area.

No vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. One driver said around five buses became stuck on Ullet Road at around 7am as a result of the obstruction.

When the ECHO visited the scene, Sydenham Avenue had been coned off up to the junction with Ullet Road as highways maintenance teams worked to remove the tree.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident. A spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident earlier this morning on Ullet Road, Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 7.14am and two fire engines arrived on scene at 7.22am. On arrival crews found a large tree had broken off and was blocking the road in both directions. Firefighters checked the area as a precaution and found no vehicles had collided with the tree. Crews then cordoned off the area and awaited the arrival of the removal team before leaving the scene."

Highways teams remain at the scene working to remove the tree. Liverpool City Council has been contacted for comment.
