Huntingdon Train Hero Discharged After Saving Lives in Knife Attack
Train hero Samir Zitouni discharged from hospital

The LNER train crew member who was seriously injured while heroically shielding passengers during the Huntingdon stabbings has been discharged from hospital, the British Transport Police has confirmed.

A Hero's Homecoming After a Brutal Attack

Samir Zitouni, 48, was left fighting for his life after sustaining multiple injuries during the major incident on board the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service from Doncaster to London on 1 November. He was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment and remained there until his discharge on Saturday 15 November.

In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed their profound gratitude for the public's support but emphasised the challenging road to recovery that lies ahead. They stated they are "so grateful for the outpouring of support from the public, and very touched by all the kind words about Sam’s brave actions on the night of the attack."

The family added, "While we are really happy to have him home, he still has a significant recovery ahead and we would now like to be left in privacy to care for him as a family."

Bravery in the Face of Danger

Mr Zitouni has been widely hailed as a hero for his actions, which are credited with potentially saving multiple lives on the train. He has worked for LNER for more than 20 years as a customer experience host, a role that largely involves providing onboard catering services.

He was one of 11 patients who required hospital treatment for injuries sustained during the violent attack. A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed his discharge, noting the critical condition he was initially in and praising the efforts of NHS staff.

David Horne, Managing Director at LNER, had previously paid a moving tribute to Mr Zitouni, stating that he "did not hesitate" to protect passengers during a "moment of crisis".

Horne said, "In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him. His actions were incredibly brave, and we are so proud of him, and of all our colleagues who acted with such courage that evening. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Sam and his family."

Justice Proceedings Underway

In the wake of the attack, Anthony Williams, 32, has been charged with ten counts of attempted murder. He was remanded into custody at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on 3 November and is scheduled to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on 1 December.
