Train Disruption on Wigan-Liverpool Line Due to Incident

Major disruption is affecting train services between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street this morning (Monday, August 10) due to an emergency incident. The line is blocked, causing cancellations, delays, and revisions to Northern services.

Services Affected

TransPennine Express services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street are also unable to run. The disruption is expected to last until at least 12:30pm.

National Rail stated: "All lines are closed between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton whilst the emergency services deal with an incident. To allow them to carry out their work safely, no trains can currently run through the area."

Delays and Alternatives

Services running between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western / St Helens Junction may be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 minutes, or revised. Major disruption is expected until 12:30.

TransPennine Express posted on X: "Service update for services between Liverpool Lime street - Manchester Victoria. Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Broad Green, trains are unable to run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria."

Rail replacement transport will operate between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria in both directions. The M.E.N has contacted the British Transport Police for further details.
