A Greater Anglia train has derailed near Wickford in Essex, blocking all lines between Southend Victoria and Wickford. The incident, reported at 2.12pm on Friday, is the second derailment on England's tracks in two days.
No injuries reported
British Transport Police (BTP) said officers are on scene just south of Wickford railway station. A spokesperson said: "Officers are currently on scene just south of Wickford railway station in Essex following reports that the rear carriages of a train have derailed in an upright position at 2.12pm today. We’re responding alongside paramedics and the fire service. There are currently no reported injuries."
Network Rail said it is working to understand the situation. A spokesperson said: "We are dealing with a derailment incident in Anglia, and we are working quickly to understand the situation and to provide assistance where needed. We will provide further information in due course."
Disruption expected until at least 4.30pm
National Rail said disruption is expected to last until at least 4.30pm while officials deal with the derailment. The line is currently blocked.
Follows Lewes derailment
The incident comes just 24 hours after a train derailed in Lewes, East Sussex, on Thursday afternoon. Three carriages ended up on their side, trapping passengers on board the Southern train. Around 150 people had been on board the service from London Victoria to Eastbourne, which was evacuated. Two people were taken to major trauma centres with "severe" injuries. BTP said on Friday the injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.
