Tokyo Crash: One Dead, 10 Injured as Driver Flees Scene

At least one person has died and 10 others are injured after a car ploughed into a crowd in central Tokyo. The incident occurred at around 12:30pm on Monday in the city's Adachi Ward.

The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was chased down by police officers approximately 500 metres away and arrested. An elderly pedestrian in his 80s is believed to have died from the impact, while a woman in her 20s was found seriously injured and unconscious before being rushed to hospital.

Police are investigating the incident as a hit and run and are also looking into whether a vehicle theft from a nearby car dealership, which occurred two hours before the crash, is linked.

This incident comes after a separate crash in Japan where a car slammed into a crowd of students leaving school, leaving at least seven injured. In that case, the suspect, Yazawa Yuki, 28, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and reportedly said, 'I was fed up with everything, so I tried to kill someone.'
