Tesco is adjusting its opening times for the May bank holiday Monday, with shoppers advised to check local store hours. The first May bank holiday falls on Monday, May 4, 2026, and Tesco stores will operate on modified schedules depending on location.
Opening Hours Across the UK
In the lead-up to the bank holiday, Tesco stores will maintain normal hours on Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3. However, on Monday, May 4, most large Tesco stores and large Express stores in England and Wales will open from 8am to 6pm. In Scotland, the majority of large stores and large Express stores will welcome customers from 7am to 10pm, while in Northern Ireland, similar stores will operate from 8am to 6pm. Standard Express stores will see no change in their usual opening hours.
Check Local Times
Tesco advises all shoppers to verify the opening times of their local store via the supermarket's website, as variations may occur. This adjustment comes as Tesco extends its Aldi Price Match scheme to over 2,000 Express convenience stores, marking the largest expansion of the initiative since its launch in May 2020.
Aldi Price Match Expansion
The expanded scheme includes more than 200 everyday products, such as Tesco Penne Pasta Quills 500g, two-pint bottles of Tesco semi-skimmed milk, and Tesco whole iceberg lettuce. Items will be clearly marked with the Aldi Price Match logo on shelf edges, and prices are checked and matched against Aldi twice weekly.
Tesco UK CEO Ashwin Prasad commented: "We know that household budgets are again under pressure, but we are committed to keeping the cost of the weekly food shop affordable for Tesco customers. By extending our Aldi Price Match scheme to Express stores we can now give customers the confidence that they can get great prices on a range of everyday products at Tesco, whether that's in our large stores, online or in more than 2,000 of our local convenience stores."
Shoppers are encouraged to take advantage of the price-matched products and plan their bank holiday shopping accordingly, keeping in mind the adjusted opening times.
