Road resurfacing works are set to close a number of roads across Tameside over the next few weeks. The '2026 micro surfacing programme' begins today (September 14) and is scheduled to be completed by October 3, as part of the £3.494m Highways Maintenance Grant for 2026/27.
The repairs will be carried out in stages across Mossley, Hyde, Ashton and Droylsden, with roads closed to allow the work to proceed effectively. Tameside council papers state that the works are weather dependent, so dates may vary, and residents would be informed of any changes.
Investment and Long-Term Savings
The programme comes just months after Tameside council promised to invest £45m in road resurfacing over five years. Much of that work will focus on 'proactive maintenance and improvement works' to save money in the long run. According to the council, modelling suggests this £45m investment could help avoid around £130m in future repair costs over the next ten years by addressing problems earlier.

The following roads will be closed between 8am and 6pm on the dates listed:
Mossley (September 14-16): Dysarts Close, Wharmton View, Alphin Close, Roaches Way, Quick View, Moorlands Drive, Meadow Close, Dale Avenue, Cote Lane, Lower Hey Lane.
Hyde (September 16-19): St Marys Road, Harbour Farm Road, Barley Croft Road, Highfield Close, Bradley Green Road, Acresfield Road.
Ashton (September 21-25): Brecon Crescent, Bristol Avenue, Carlisle Crescent, Sherwood Close, Guildford Drive, Charnwood Close, Ellesmere Avenue, Exmoor Close, Bowland Close, Lincoln Close, Lichfield Avenue, Whalley Grove, Norwich Close, Winchester Avenue, Tewkesbury Avenue, Nottingham Drive, Newstead Avenue, Epping Close, Whernside Avenue, Westminster Avenue.
Ashton (September 28-October 3): Camberwell Drive, Fieldfare Way, Meadowbank, Ridgecroft, The Heath, Gatekeeper Fold, Lynwood Close, Limehurst Avenue, Wellington Clough.
