Oxford Street car park, near the Grand Theatre in Swansea city centre, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday this week. The closure is needed to allow ground works to be carried out in connection with the installation of electric vehicle charging points, including excavation work across its main entrance.
Why the car park is closing
A statement from Swansea Council said: "We will be closing Oxford Street car park for two days on Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29."
"The closure is necessary to complete ground works linked to the installation of ultra-rapid EV charging points at the car park."
Most of the work to date has been completed without the need for a full closure. The latest phase includes ground excavation work across the main entrance to the car park and means the council is unable to keep it open while this is completed.
Alternative parking and potential disruption
The council has signposted people to alternative locations they can park in the meantime. Alternative parking can be found nearby at the Quadrant MSCP or Paxton Street.
The closure may cause disruption for those planning to watch Opera Boys – The Farewell Tour, featuring Paul Potts, which is on at the Grand on Tuesday night.
