Stirling Council has completed vital repairs to fully reopen a key road and paths in the city centre following the aftermath of Storm Eowyn.
Repairs on Greenwood Avenue
Large rocks had fallen onto Greenwood Avenue after the storm, forcing closures due to safety concerns. Specialist teams removed the debris and cleared vegetation and loose rocks from nearby slopes in March. The work was carried out by Stirling Council engineers alongside SG Access and Fairhurst, with the council’s Roads Team later resurfacing the affected area.
Reopening and ongoing work
Greenwood Avenue and the Back Walk Low Path between Clarendon Road and Victoria Road have now reopened to traffic and pedestrians. However, assessments continue on further issues on nearby slopes and the Back Walk beneath Stirling Castle, which remains closed.
Environment, Transport and Net Zero Convener, Cllr Alasdair Tollemache, thanked residents for their patience, stating: “I’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience while works took place to address a significant safety risk posed by loose rock and fallen trees on the slopes at the Back Walk.”
He added: “Recent extreme weather events have elevated the risk to public safety in this area and further works will ensure that we will be able to fully reopen the Back Walk to pedestrians in due course.”
