A fire broke out at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel at Stansted Airport on Monday morning, leading to the evacuation of guests and staff. Firefighters were called to the scene just before 10.30am after reports of a blaze on the third floor of the building, which houses hundreds of guest rooms.
The hotel was evacuated as a precaution while crews worked to extinguish the fire. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that all staff and guests were accounted for and no injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control by 11.15am, approximately 30 minutes after firefighters arrived.
Crews remained at the scene to ventilate the building using high-pressure fans to clear smoke. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway. Station Manager Dan Byatt praised the quick actions of crews and partner agencies, including Stansted Airport and Essex Police, in managing the incident and ensuring flights were not missed.
The Hampton by Hilton is located a five-minute walk from the airport terminals. This incident follows a separate fire in Glasgow on Sunday, where a blaze in a vape shop spread to neighbouring buildings, causing significant damage but no injuries.
