Football fever is sweeping Ayrshire, and Stagecoach is marking Scotland's participation in the World Cup by temporarily renaming its number 11 service 'Steve Clarke's 11' in honour of one of the area's most celebrated sporting figures.
Tribute to a local hero
The special tribute recognises the achievements of Saltcoats-born Clarke, whose leadership has helped the Scotland men's side reach the world's biggest football tournament for the first time in 28 years. For the duration of Scotland's World Cup campaign, customers using the number 11 route will travel on the rebranded service, now known as 'Steve Clarke's 11'.
Route with a connection
The route has strong links to Clarke's football story. It begins at Kilmarnock Bus Station, around 1.5 miles from Rugby Park, where he enjoyed success as manager of Kilmarnock before taking charge of the national team. The service then travels through his hometown of Saltcoats before terminating in Ardrossan.
While the fully electric number 11 service is helping deliver cleaner, greener journeys across Ayrshire, Scotland supporters will be hoping Clarke can continue to electrify the nation by leading the team beyond the World Cup group stages for the first time in the country's history.
Clarke's journey
Clarke began his football journey with Beith Juniors before enjoying a distinguished playing career with St Mirren and Chelsea. He has since established himself as one of Scotland's most successful modern managers, leading the national side to consecutive European Championships before securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
