A Southern Rail train has derailed between Haywards Heath and Lewes in Sussex, according to reports. British Transport Police are on the scene near Lewes railway station, with paramedics and the fire service also responding.

The derailment was reported at 3.54pm on 13 August. Officers from British Transport Police are currently on scene close to Lewes railway station. In a statement, the force said: "We’re responding alongside paramedics and the fire service and will provide more information as soon as we can."
Response and cause unknown
Unconfirmed images appear to show the train lying on its side. The cause of the derailment is not yet clear. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander wrote on X: "Deeply concerned of reports of a derailment involving a Southern train in Lewes, Sussex. Grateful to emergency services who are on the scene supporting those impacted. We are working quickly with the rail industry and local partners to assist passengers."
