Skoda Kodiaq Best Large SUV in UK by Auto Express

The Skoda Kodiaq has been named the best large SUV to drive in the UK by Auto Express, surpassing models like the Range Rover, Jaecoo, and BMW. The publication updated its list of top large SUVs currently on sale, highlighting the Kodiaq's strong value for money, spacious boot, and clever cabin features.

Skoda Kodiaq Tops the List

Auto Express praised the Czech-made Kodiaq for its practicality and affordability, though it noted drawbacks such as a flimsy-feeling rotary dial, fidgety ride on larger wheels, and underwhelming looks. Despite these criticisms, the magazine concluded: "The Skoda Kodiaq embodies all that the Czech firm stands for: solid value for money, quality, practicality, and a few little surprises that add to the ownership experience."

Senior road test editor Dean Gibson added: "Skoda’s ‘Simply Clever’ philosophy is perfectly suited to a car such as the Kodiaq – family-friendly features make it a useful accessory to family life."

Volkswagen Tayron Takes Second

In second place, the Volkswagen Tayron was commended for its seven seats, comfort, and generous standard equipment. However, it lost points for being dull to drive, its plug-in hybrid variant offering only five seats, and the R-Line models being expensive.

Hyundai Santa Fe Comes Third

The Hyundai Santa Fe secured third place, noted as the best option for large families. Reviewers appreciated its comfortable drive, great design, and extensive equipment. But it was criticized for being expensive, having a noisy petrol engine, and lacking a diesel option.

Christopher Sharp of Reach tested the Santa Fe earlier this year, noting: "Is the Hyundai Santa Fe perfect? No. I do feel the amenities of the third row of seats should be moved to the second row... The haptic touch pads should be replaced by buttons, and the four cylinder engine sounds very stretched when it’s revved hard or charging the battery." He added that despite minor issues, the Santa Fe changed his mind about SUVs leaning too much toward the sport side, recommending it as a capable family SUV.
