Alan Shearer has sent a transfer warning to Sandro Tonali, urging the Newcastle United midfielder to consider Tottenham Hotspur's recent Premier League struggles before making a move. The Italian international has been linked with a summer exit from St James' Park, with clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid reportedly interested.
Shearer's Warning
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer highlighted Tottenham's poor form over the last two seasons, where they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign. "Tottenham just avoided relegation. I get the attraction of London but going to Spurs who have finished so low over the last two years would be a surprise career move for Tonali in my eyes," Shearer said.
Newcastle's Stance
Newcastle have placed a £100m price tag on Tonali and are open to selling if the right offer comes in, but only on their terms. Despite speculation, no formal bids have been received. Reports suggest Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi could make a move for the 26-year-old, but Shearer doubts the wisdom of such a transfer.
"If he doesn't want to be there, you put the price you want and if someone wants to pay it, and it looks as if it'll have to be three figures, then you say thank you very much, get the £100million plus and you move on," Shearer added, emphasizing that Newcastle should reinvest any funds into the squad.
Tonali has remained quiet on his future and continued to play a full role for Newcastle during the 2025-26 season amid the transfer talk.
