A multi-vehicle collision on the M11 in Essex caused significant disruption on Saturday, closing two lanes and leaving motorists stuck in long tailbacks. The incident occurred between junction 9 (Newmarket) and junction 8 (Stansted Airport), with congestion stretching for miles in both directions as emergency services attended the scene.
National Highways confirmed that all lanes have since reopened, but warned that delays are expected to persist while recovery teams clear debris from the carriageway. Wrecked cars were moved to the hard shoulder, and traffic officers are currently sweeping the road to ensure safety.
Drivers have been advised to check their routes before travelling, as disruption is likely to continue for some time. Traffic service Inrix reported queuing traffic due to the accident on the M11 southbound from junction 9 to junction 8.
