A Greater Anglia train has derailed near Wickford in Essex, causing major disruption on the rail network. The incident comes less than 24 hours after 20 people were injured in a similar derailment at Lewes.
Passengers urged not to travel
Passengers have been advised not to travel between Shenfield and Southend Victoria until further notice, while alternative travel arrangements have been put in place.
Previous incident at Lewes
On Thursday afternoon, British Transport Police declared a major incident when three carriages derailed and trapped passengers on board a Southern train near Lewes. Eighteen others were also hurt after the 2.24pm service from London Victoria to Eastbourne flipped when tracks appeared to warp as heat hit 38°C.
Three carriages smashed through trees into a field near Lewes, East Sussex. A dad described "pandemonium" as rescue crews swarmed the scene.
