Commuters in Scotland faced disruption and cancellations after a fire broke out beside a busy railway line. All ScotRail services between Dumbarton Central and Helensburgh Central and Upper were cancelled after a blaze erupted next to the tracks at Craigendoran at around 10am. Services between Helensburgh and Edinburgh terminated at and restarted from Dumbarton Central.
Network Rail Response
Network Rail Scotland said: "We’re responding to a fire next to the railway at Craigendoran, near Helensburgh. This affects services between Dumbarton Central and Helensburgh Central/Upper, with trains unable to pass through the area."
Fire Extinguished, Delays Continue
The fire has since been extinguished and trains are able to pass through the area. However, ScotRail warned services could still be delayed while crews and trains returned to their normal positions. Passengers are being urged to check the status of their services before travelling.
Earlier this morning, ScotRail said a signalling fault affected the line between Aviemore and Inverness. Services between Edinburgh, Glasgow Queen Street and Inverness were delayed, revised or cancelled before the fault was fixed, with services now returning to normal.
