ScotRail has cancelled all services on a busy Glasgow rail line this weekend due to engineering works, with passengers urged to check their journeys and allow extra time for travel.
Closure details and affected routes
The works are taking place between Cathcart and Maxwell Park, closing all lines on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16. No trains will run between Glasgow Central and Newton, Neilston, or on the Cathcart Circle.
Passengers travelling through the affected areas can use alternative train services via Glasgow Central Low Level, with stops at Crossmyloof, Pollokshaws West, Giffnock, Clarkston, Cambuslang, and Rutherglen.
Alternative transport options
Rail passengers with valid tickets can also use selected McGill’s bus services at no additional cost. On Saturday, McGill’s services 3 and 66 will operate between Neilston and Glasgow, travelling through Barrhead, Pollokshaws, and Shawlands. On Sunday, buses will run between Barrhead and Glasgow, with stops in Pollokshaws and Shawlands.
ScotRail shared details of the disruption on social media, urging customers to make use of the alternative transport available.
Official statement and reopening
A ScotRail spokesperson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Engineering work is taking place between Cathcart and Maxwell Park, closing all lines, today and tomorrow (15/16 Aug). No trains will run between Glasgow Central and Newton / Neilston / Cathcart Circle.”
The post continued: “Customers can use alternative train services via: Barrhead, Crossmyloof, Pollokshaws West, Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton, Cambuslang, Rutherglen for journeys via Glasgow Central Low Level. Passengers with valid rail tickets can use the McGill’s 3 or 66 buses between Neilston and Barrhead / Glasgow.”
The engineering work is part of planned railway maintenance, and the affected routes are expected to reopen on Monday, August 17. Passengers are encouraged to check the latest travel information before leaving home, particularly if they have onward connections or are travelling at busy times.
