Royal Mail has confirmed that no deliveries or collections will take place anywhere in Wales on Monday, August 31. The suspension affects the whole of Wales, along with England, Northern Ireland and the majority of Scotland, as the UK marks the Summer Bank Holiday.
Nationwide suspension confirmed
Royal Mail announced the pause in a notice to customers, stating: "There will be no deliveries or collections of mail in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland on Monday, August 31 (Summer Bank Holiday)."
While most of Scotland is also affected, a number of Scottish postcode areas will continue to receive services today. Those exempt include DG13, EH43-EH46, G, HS1-HS3, HS6, KA (excluding 6, 7 and 8), KW15-KW17, ML1-ML12, PA1-PA20, PA22-PA28, PA30-PA35, PA37-38, PA42, PA45, PA60, PH1, PH2, PH14, TD3, TD4-TD6, TD10-TD12, TD14 and ZE1-ZE2.
When deliveries resume
Welsh residents waiting on post can expect deliveries to resume from Tuesday, September 1, when Bank Holiday disruption ends and the standard six-day service returns. Letters and smaller parcels are typically delivered Monday to Saturday throughout the working day.
How quickly an item arrives depends on the service chosen. Royal Mail's First Class post is aimed at next working day delivery, including Saturdays, while Second Class typically takes between two and three working days. Sundays are not part of Royal Mail's standard delivery schedule in Wales, though some services, including Tracked 24, may include Sunday parcel deliveries in certain areas.
Christmas Bank Holiday impact
Looking further ahead, the next Bank Holiday affecting Wales will fall on Friday, December 25, with postal services again suspended for Christmas Day. Boxing Day lands on Saturday, December 26, with a substitute Bank Holiday on Monday, December 28, meaning collections and deliveries will not take place on that date either.
