Royal Mail has listed 27 postcodes across the UK that could face delivery delays today, September 28, 2026. The company updated its website to note that while "delivery and collection services will take place across the UK today", some areas may be affected.
Why some areas face delays
In its 'Deliveries Today' section, Royal Mail explains: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors."
"In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."
The 27 affected postcodes
Apologising and listing the UK postcodes impacted, it writes: "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted."
The 27 affected postcodes as of September 28 include:
- Bicester DO (OX25-OX27)
- Birchwood DO (WA3)
- Bridge of Don DO (AB22, AB23)
- Exmouth DO (EX8, EX9)
- Golders Green DO (NW11)
- Houghton Le Spring DO (DH4, DH5)
- Ilfracombe DO (EX34)
- Nuneaton DO (CV10, CV11, CV13)
- Reading East DO (RG4-RG6, RG10)
- Teignmouth DO (TQ14)
- Thornbury DO (BS35)
- Wandsworth DO (SW18)
- Warrington DO (WA1, WA2, WA4, WA5, WA55)
No collection or delivery dates
Royal Mail also reminds customers that on some dates, there will be no collections or deliveries. It says: "We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on public or local holidays." It adds that local holidays are subject to change.
For England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2026, no collections or deliveries will take place on December 25 (Friday, Christmas), December 26 (Saturday, Boxing Day), and December 28 (Monday, substitute day for Boxing Day).
For Scotland in 2026, no collections or deliveries will take place on September 28 (Monday, local holiday) in the G, KA9-KA15, KA19-KA30, ML1-ML12, PA1-PA13, PA20-PA28, PA30-35, PA37-38, PA42, PA45, PA60 postcode areas; October 5 (Monday, local holiday) in the PH1, PH2 and PH14 postcode areas; and December 25, 26 and 28 as listed above.
