Royal Mail delays: check if your postcode is affected

Royal Mail publishes a daily round-up on its website with the latest information on its services. Customers can check whether their postcode is affected by delays and see which areas have no collections or deliveries.

To check, go to the Royal Mail website and select “Deliveries Today”. On the September 30 page, the company said it was “sorry for any inconvenience” and thanked customers for their “understanding.” It said the most affected offices are listed below, meaning residents in those postcodes could see delays.

Affected postcodes

The affected offices include Witham DO (CM8), Heswall DO (CH31, CH60-CH61), Ilfracombe DO (EX34), Houghton Le Spring DO (DH4, DH5), Teignmouth DO (TQ14), Thornbury DO (BS35), Bristol North DO (BS6, BS7), Basingstoke DO (RG21-RG26, RG28), Nuneaton DO (CV10, CV11, CV13), Birchwood DO (WA3) and Bicester DO (OX25-OX27).

Royal Mail says it aims to deliver to every address six days a week, but a small number of local offices are sometimes unable to meet this due to issues such as staff sickness or shortages. When this happens, Royal Mail says it rotates deliveries to minimise delays for customers. It also sends additional support to help the affected offices resolve the issues and return to normal service.

No collections or deliveries in 2026

Royal Mail also reminds customers that there will be no collections or deliveries on certain dates. It says: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on public or local holidays.” It adds that local holidays are subject to change.

In Scotland in 2026, there will be no collections or deliveries on October 5 (Monday) for a local holiday in the PH1, PH2 and PH14 postcode areas, on December 25 (Friday) for Christmas, on December 26 (Saturday) for Boxing Day, and on December 28 (Monday) as a substitute day for Boxing Day.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2026, there will be no collections or deliveries on December 25 (Friday) for Christmas, December 26 (Saturday) for Boxing Day, and December 28 (Monday) as a substitute day for Boxing Day.
