Royal Mail has announced a major change affecting customers in the UK, updating its 'something for you' delivery cards with a new QR code feature. The cards are issued when posties cannot complete a delivery.
In a Facebook post, Royal Mail explained the update: 'We’ve revitalised our Something for you delivery cards – with a fresh new look and a clever upgrade. They now come with an easy to scan QR code – because even the most charming handwriting deserves a digital sidekick. The new card is simpler, faster, and a more secure way to stay in control of your missed deliveries.'
How the new cards work
A Royal Mail staff member demonstrated the new card in a video, stating: 'This updated version includes a QR code that provides direct access to your item's location. Simply scan the QR code on the card using your mobile phone to instantly view your tracking details.'
They added: 'You'll see a link beginning with RYML.me. Just tap the link to open your tracking page. Your unique nine-digit tracking code will already be filled in for you. Simply enter your delivery postcode to confirm access. From there, you'll be able to see the latest location of your item, including any safe place photos or neighbour delivery details.'
Customers can also manually enter the nine-digit code on the Royal Mail app or website. If the item has been taken to a local delivery office, the card shows the recipient's name so the correct ID can be brought when collecting. Alternatively, a redelivery can be requested at a convenient date.
Security advice
Royal Mail emphasised that it will never ask for additional information or payment to locate or track an item. The company's website warns that scammers may create fake delivery cards and provides examples of scams to look out for.
