Qantas to Launch Historic 22-Hour Nonstop London to Sydney Flights in 2027
Qantas to Launch 22-Hour London-Sydney Nonstop Flights

In a landmark move for long-haul aviation, Qantas has confirmed plans to launch the world's first regular nonstop passenger flights between London and Sydney, with services scheduled to commence in the first half of 2027. This ambitious route, spanning a staggering 10,573 miles, is set to redefine ultra-long-distance air travel.

Specially Adapted Aircraft for a 22-Hour Journey

The airline will deploy specially modified Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for this pioneering service. These planes will be fitted with an additional fuel tank, enabling them to complete the entire journey without refuelling. The projected flight time is approximately 19 hours for the outbound leg from London to Sydney, with an extra hour anticipated for the return journey due to prevailing headwinds, making it a total of around 22 hours in the air.

A Premium, Spacious Cabin Configuration

Qantas has opted for a premium configuration to enhance passenger comfort on these marathon flights. The aircraft will feature just 238 seats across four distinct classes, a significantly lower density than standard long-haul layouts. This includes six luxurious first-class suites and economy sections with enhanced legroom, ensuring a more comfortable experience for all travellers.

Building on Existing Success and Expanding Global Reach

This new route builds upon Qantas's proven expertise in ultra-long-haul operations. The airline successfully launched the first nonstop flights between London and Perth in 2018, a service that has demonstrated strong demand. Furthermore, Qantas has also announced its intention to introduce direct flights from Sydney to New York, signalling a strategic expansion of its global nonstop network.

Industry analysts and travel experts predict that these direct London-Sydney flights will prove immensely popular, offering unprecedented convenience for business travellers, tourists, and those visiting family and friends. By eliminating layovers, Qantas aims to capture a significant share of the lucrative UK-Australia travel market, setting a new benchmark for commercial aviation endurance and passenger service.
