A Royal Mail postman has been urged to blacklist a customer after an awkward parking dispute left him waiting half an hour. The incident, shared on Reddit, has sparked debate about parking etiquette and postal workers' rights.
Postman blocked by Tesla during delivery
The postman, who is new to the job, arrived at a block of flats to deliver a parcel and parked in the nearest available space. When he returned to his red Royal Mail van, he found it blocked in by a Tesla. He honked several times, and a resident came out, explaining that the Tesla belonged to a neighbour who often blocks non-residents. The postman eventually discovered the Tesla driver was the parcel recipient.
After about 30 minutes, the driver moved his car. The postman asked why he was blocked but was ignored. He noted there was a residents' parking sign he missed, but plenty of free bays were available near the entrance.
Reddit users react: 'Blacklist his address'
On Reddit, users urged the postman to blacklist the address for aggressive behaviour. One commenter said: '30 minutes? All his parcels are RTS [return to sender]. He can come pick them up if he wants them.' Another added: 'And his mail, blacklist his address for aggressive behaviour.'
A third user wrote: 'Your address goes in my mental black book, and you'd better get used to delayed deliveries or coming to collect your mail from the office.' They described the Tesla driver as 'the personification of our fraying society.'
Postal Services Act 2000 and wider context
Under Section 86 of the Postal Services Act 2000, it is an offence to intentionally obstruct a postal worker in the execution of their duties. The postman said he had never experienced such issues in other residential areas, where residents were 'nice and grateful.'
One Reddit user commented: 'I understand why people can get funny about outsiders taking limited private parking slots. But to do that to the postman is insane.' Another shared: 'I deliver for a supermarket and you wouldn't believe some of the abuse I get. People are unhinged.'
